Epic Road Trip

We finally did it!! An epic road trip! We knew we wanted to go sometime before the summer and figured it would be a great time to take advantage of Trev's spring break. We ended up getting 30 mpg for the 2271 miles we traveled. Go Subaru! We couldn't have asked for a better turn out and it was such an exciting experience for all of us. 

McCoy did pretty well in the car. He had a few rough hours when he wasn't feeling well and threw up in the car but it did get better. Here are some fun pictures of the drive and him using the passenger seat as a foot rest. Having a forward facing car seat makes the world of a difference (minus the head bobble thing but as you can see in the proceeding picture, we took care of that problem.)

1st stop...Grandma's and Grandpa's.

We drove 4 hours to St. George, UT and my grandparents were sweet enough to let us stay with them that night. McCoy wasn't feeling well and sadly threw up that night :(. We debated continuing our road trip since no one ever likes to be traveling while they don't feel well. We're glad we did continue it though because this is a trip we hope we'll never forget. 
McCoy found this little antique miniature bike that had wheels of his dreams. He spun the wheels on that thing for about an hour straight. Like I mentioned above, McCoy wasn't feeling well so anything to occupy him and keep him distracted from being sick was fabulous! McCoy played outside with grandpa too and he loved it. The whether there was perfect for playing outside. Not too hot, not too cold. Grandma and Grandpa were such great hosts and made us feel so welcome. We even stayed up until 12:30 that night playing "Phase-10" with grandma. It was a blast and Trevor loved learning a new game since he'd never played it before. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!!

Here you can see that he really didn't feel well. He was so sleepy by this point. Poor guy. 

Our travels then lead us through St. George and to Los Angeles, CA as our second stop and we stayed with Trevor's grandma this time. Trev's grandma has lived in the same home for as long as Trevor can remember and he said it was a lot of fun to recall and tell about some of his childhood memories there. She owns a beautiful property with beautiful and delicious fruit trees, mostly consisting of orange trees. When you walked outside you could instantly smell them. I could see why Trevor was so fond of this place. It was beautiful. Every kids dream. It had a pool, basketball court and all the sweets from fruit a kid could want. It was great. I didn't take any pictures of it and we're kicking ourselves because I would love to show you what we enjoyed. 

McCoy stayed in the "Office" and in that same room were two big drawers full of toys that even Trevor remembers playing with. McCoy had a blast. 

 In the morning McCoy was finally feeling a little better and had gone some time with out throwing up. Here he is sitting at grandma's table waiting "patiently" for his oatmeal.

 Don't ask me what he's doing here. He's always had this weird obsession with looking up at things. I'm pretty sure he was trying to get the light fixture hanging from the sealing. Funny Boy.

While we were in L.A. we visited the L.A. Zoo. McCoy didn't enjoy the animals quite as much as I thought he would. We forgot only one thing on our trip and that was our umbrella stroller. We searched thrift stores everywhere but had no luck finding one. Finally when we were doing laundry in grandma's pool house, we found a really old but still usable stroller that I'm pretty sure Trevor used when he was McCoy's age. We're glad grandma still had it. But let me tell you, he sure did love pushing the stroller around. Actually he loved that more than anything else. Having a little boy push a stroller blindly down a walk way in a zoo with about 50 other people already walking there, isn't the most ideal for a parent. But hey, it kept him happy so we had fun.

 These gorillas were so funny. They were all so lazy. 

 So were the zebras. 

 Look how nasty this guy is. It makes me sick every time I look at it. He even had a horn sticking straight out of top of his mouth...so nasty. 

 The giraffes were definitely our favorite of the whole zoo. They were so beautiful and I couldn't believe how big they were. Such an amazing animal to see. (Link Below)

 McCoy's definitely my little "momma's boy". Here he is reaching for me while I take photos of how silly and dramatic he's being...couldn't help it:). 

Trevor's best friend Tom Leach lives in L.A. as well, which is pretty much the entire reason we stopped in L.A. to begin with. Tom and Trev grew up right next door to each other. They have so many memories together and I had only met Tom one other time a few years ago. It was great to see him and his girlfriend, Lauren. On Friday, Tom treated us to a very nice dinner at the VIP lounge above "The House Of Blues" club on Sunset strip. It was great to get out as adults while Trev's wonderful aunt Diane took care of McCoy. After dinner we got the chance to have a tour of down town L.A. which included Beverly Hills, Bel Air and UCLA campus, courtesy of Tom and his sick new 2011 Acura TL. It was beautiful and also great to see Tom's neck of the woods.


The next day we also had the pleasure of going to "Pann's", a breakfast restaurant with Tom. It was delicious. 

After Pann's, we met up with Lauren and got to go visit the Santa Monica Pier. Tom used his great skills playing the "carney" games and won McCoy the cutest little frog. The first thing that McCoy did was give it a big kiss and a hug. I think Tom really liked McCoy and I'm pretty sure McCoy liked him back once he knew he could get toys from him:) Lauren for sure was McCoy's favorite. When McCoy and Lauren met for the first time, the first thing that McCoy did was softly pet her cheek while just staring at her. It was adorable. 


Just off the Pier there was of course the beach. McCoy could live there. It was so great to see him so happy and entertained. He LOVED the sand. It was way too cold to go in the water.  Up until that point of him discovering the sand, we were convinced that water was the only thing that could make McCoy happy no matter what. But now we know better. He had sand in every place imaginable. He loved it and we all sat on a blanket and watched the entertainment.

Our next stop was the bay area about a six hour drive to visit Nicole and Trevor's friends Owen and Alyssa. Nicole took us out for dinner and then to taste some amazing frozen yogurt. Thanks Nic! Here's a video of McCoy at the restaurant. (Link Below)

We stayed the night at Owen and Alyssa's. They were great hosts as well! We stayed up talking and watching a few of our favorite TV shows. They have a cute little dog named Jax and McCoy had a blast playing with him. They're a good fetch team. Alyssa even made us some the most delicious biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Thanks you two!!


Lastly, it was off to Grandpa and G.K.'s house (Trev's dad, Keith and his wife Kim) in Folsom, CA. Kim's daughter Sophia was so sweet with McCoy. McCoy always enjoys playing with younger and smaller people like him but for some reason he's very fond of little girls including my little sister Jill and Sophia. They had so much fun together and Sophia was so good to let McCoy play with all her little toys. One toy in specific was a pink stroller just McCoy's size. He loved that thing and played with it practically the whole time. Here's a video of him playing with it outside grandpa's house. (Links Below)

The last night of our trip, Keith took us to a great LADY GAGA concert. Linda Leach, Tom's mother, was so sweet to watch McCoy for that night while we once again had the chance to be out as adults. McCoy and Linda had such a fun time. McCoy came home with two little animals from carnival games from when Tom was a kid. I told you, Tom loves those carnival games. It was so cute and Linda said that McCoy was such a good baby boy, thankfully :).


The concert was probably one of the best and most entertaining concerts I've ever been too. She was a great performer and the crowd was very entertaining. There were tons of people dressed up as her, some you couldn't tell if they were male or female. It made for a fun and interesting night as you could imagine. It was very fun to get a taste of what Lady GAGA's world is like as the "Mother Monster" and her fans as her "little monsters," as she calls them. Very memorable! Thanks Keith and Kim!! 


We almost didn't bring McCoy on the road trip and even had the courtesy of Traci to watch McCoy. We decided a few days before that we had some attachment problems...ok, ok, it wasn't McCoy, It was me. I couldn't stand thinking about leaving him for 9 whole days. I'm glad we made the decision to bring him along. It wouldn't have been the same without him and he made the trip that much better. It was our first official Wood family road trip and it couldn't have been any better. 


Thanks again to all of those who generously helped us with beds to sleeps in, meals, fun entertainment and even some of the best baby sitters we could have ever asked for. We couldn't have had such a great trip without you all! 

life as we know it

McCoy has such a fun and adorable personality. We discover something new about his capabilities every day.There are some days when we discover a lot of things and some days we just get to enjoy being parents. Trevor seems to always have the camera at the right time and the right place. He's a much better photographer than I am and I have to share these adorable pictures and videos with you. 

One of these things that I've starting to figure out about McCoy is that he either loves something, or he hates it. Gladly I would like to say that he loves more things than he hates. 

One of these things that he LOVES is the bath. He has always loved the bath and his excitement towards it has been growing ever since he was born. In fact, every time we get him undressed and start up the water for the bath, he gets so excited he can't contain it and ends up whizzing everywhere! I'm talking everywhere. Then he continues to stomp his feet in excitement because he thinks it's the water that he's about to play in but instead, it's the pee that I have to "409" off everything it splashes. These pictures show this extreme love for the water. Of course, he starts off just interested by the water and bubbles....but just wait until you see the results of his excitement.

Look at those waives in the bath...this boy has got some energy if i do say so myself.

Another thing that McCoy seems to LOVE lately is this little Portuguese book. I recently posted on this book and just to show a little more appreciation for this constant entertainment, here are a few more photos....oh and he's getting better too because now he can walk and read at the same time :) 

McCoy also has a passion for balls. Trevor is a very proud father and he loves to say that McCoy is going to grow up to be an amazing athlete. After church one Sunday, Trevor was supposed to be putting him to sleep (hence the binki) but instead wanted to see if he could shoot his big green ball into the trash can that is supposed to hold his diapers. We got this squishy ball as a gift from an in-law when McCoy was a lot smaller. He's always enjoyed playing with it but has recently found a certain love for wrestling it. I couldn't help but to take pictures of it because he was getting so enthusiastic about making sure that ball knew who was boss.

After this attack on the poor innocent ball, McCoy decided to attack me...All I could seem to catch as evidence on the camera was his silly faces. Check some of these out, they're pretty intense. I don't even think I could make some of these funny faces even if I tried. 

Ok, they're not so much as funny but just really cute! 

February Happenings

Happy February to all! I know it's been a while since an official post has been seen by our viewers. So here we go....it's going to be a long one and hopefully we can be better about updating our blog life. 

McCoy has been developing so quickly lately. I just can't believe some of the things we discover about him every day. He's starting to copy us more and more. His favorite thing to say is..."caarr" and we pretty sure he knows what it is. We're proud of him and we've decided that's his official first word. 

McCoy is a true blue boy. He loves more than anything to throw balls and whack sticks around all day. He's got a pretty good arm, thanks to dad teaching how "real boys" throw balls. We've been working with him to show that he can only throw balls or objects when there's no one in the way...kind of hard to teach a 14 month old, but we're hoping he'll learn eventually. 

McCoy loves the treats that dad shares with him. This time he was lucky enough to get a sip of his milk shake...ok, it ended up being more like a gulp but McCoy still LOVED it! 

The next treat dad gave him was a yummy "slow-melt" Popsicle. This, McCoy loves as well.

McCoy has been a lot more active lately. I know, you're thinking, "what? This kid can be more active than he already is?" and the answer is, YES!! He plays by himself and does a good job of staying out of trouble, most of the time. We love that he's totally becoming the little boy we've always wanted.

A few weeks ago, I took McCoy to the pet store and HE LOVED IT! It was so much fun to see him react to each kind of animal there. He loved the bunnies that he could touch too! He was so cute and fascinated with each new discovery. 

This lizard thing jumped out at us. It scared the pants off me but McCoy just laughed and loved him

Although McCoy is a very active little toddler, he still loves to sit down and enjoy a good book. We caught him on tape flipping through what most people would considering a very boring "book." McCoy seemed to like the "Portuguese/English Dictionary." Watch as he talks to tell us what's he's learned. It sounds just like Portuguese, lots of "g's." (Link Below)

Smart little Boy

As well as reading, McCoy has picked up an interest for watching "Baby Einstein." It's the only thing McCoy will sit and watch. I feel like because of this amazing DVD, McCoy has learned to sit some-what still. Last week, McCoy sat through an entire sacrament meeting ,in the chapel and not the foyer, without having to take a break to the drinking fountain or cultural hall to run around. A few days ago, we got a random snow storm. We ended up with about 8 in. of snow. McCoy doesn't get out much now that it's cold outside, so we bundled up and headed out. HE LOVED IT!!!!! We were out there for hours and he loved to wear his gloves, surprisingly. Every time one of his gloves would fall off, he would come running over carrying it and holding it up for me to put it back on. He even straightened his hand and aimed for the opening of the glove to help. SO CUTE!! I took a few videos, check them out.

In this last video, McCoy is so convinced that walking in the snow is the only way to go on his way. He walks pretty well on this little strip of snow left from the tracks of the tires in the parking lot. It brought a smile to my face.

McCoy has been doing this thing lately with his bottom lip. He puffs it out like he's pouting and it is usually followed by putting his head down as if he's being shy. I don't know where he picked up on it but we've been trying to get it on film to show you just how cute it is. Trev finally got it so I have to share. (Link below)

One last video. Sundays are the only day of the week that we get to spend the whole day together as a family. This morning we woke up, ate a yummy eggs, bacon and pancake breakfast and then spent the rest of the morning before McCoy's first nap, playing together and having fun. We found these little socks from when he was younger. He used to play with the little characters on them but we put them on his feet to see what he would do. He couldn't get enough of them. He walked around almost in a march making sure they made as much noise as possible. We couldn't help but to laugh and enjoy watching him be the cutest little boy. (Link Below)
